Review: Miss Benson's Beetle by Rachel Joyce

Miss Benson's Beetle  by  Rachel Joyce My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I am a big fan of Rachel Joyce’s writing. Her books bring an emotional connection and pull at the strings of your heart. MISS BENSON’S BEETLE is another work of genius by this author. From the first page, the story takes hold of your heart and does not let go until the end. The connection between Margery and Enid is simply incredible. Their relationship builds up throughout the book and blossoms into an incredibly unique friendship. The story will make you smile, put you on edge, but you will end up cheering for these extraordinary ladies. I did not want the story to end, but on the last page, I knew I had experienced a phenomenal read and it could not end any better. Pick up a copy today and start your quest to find the Golden Beetle of New Caledonia. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove...

Review: Until We Are Lost by Leslie Archer

Until We Are Lost  by  Leslie Archer My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! UNTIL WE ARE LOST by Leslie Archer was a surprisingly good read. I actually could not put it down. It was strange and fascinating. The book deals with many difficult subjects such as child abuse, prostitution, murder, and the darkness of the mind. The story is twisted, sexy, and thrilling. I was hooked from the beginning to the end. This is a fantastic psychological thriller. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #untilwearelost #lesliearcher #bookreview View all my reviews

Review: Curse of the Divine by Kim Smejkal

Curse of the Divine  by  Kim Smejkal My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! CURSE OF THE DIVINE by Kim Smejkal is the second and final book in the Ink in The Blood Series. I say "final" since there is no other book planned in this series at this time and the book has a closed ending. This series is the first I read that uses gender pronouns. I must admit that it confused me a first but then it fitted the book. The book picks up where the first book ended. Celia must find a way to free Griffin from Diavala, a demon, without killing him. She knows of only one person who had been possessed by Diavala and survived when she left his body. Finding that person turns out to be quite a task and once she finds him, she will have to bargain more than she has to save Griffin. But appearance can be deceiving. Will she find the truth before it is too late? If you are a YA fantasy fan, I recommend this wonderful series. I recommend you read both books in order to appreciate the...

Review: When We Were Young & Brave by Hazel Gaynor

When We Were Young & Brave  by  Hazel Gaynor My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! WHEN WE WERE YOUNG & BRAVE by Hazel Gaynor is a stunning story of courage, friendship, hope, and resilience. This book is based on true events and was an eye-opener on the struggles and life-conditions, many ex-pats lived through during WWII in China. The book has two narrators, an adult teacher in charge of ex-pat children, and one of the female students. They both offer different views of their incarceration time in an internment camp. The book has several triggers such as violence, rape, mistreatment of animals, and accounts of many horrors of war. The Brownies and Girl Guide theme throughout the book is refreshing and demonstrates its value and importance to the young girls who were facing unspeakable events. Hazel Gaynor delivers another beautifully written novel and heartfelt story. This is a must-read for historical novels. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodl...

Review: The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah

The Four Winds  by  Kristin Hannah My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! THE FOUR WINDS by Kristin Hannah was a deeply emotional and beautiful read. It is an account of one remarkable woman’s courage and tenacity in face of adversity. The story takes place between 1921 and 1940 and tells the story of Elsa Wolcott. We find out about her struggles to be loved by her family, her forced marriage after getting pregnant, her life and hardship on her husband’s family farm, her decision to leave with her children in the hope of a better life in California, and her fight to keep her children alive. I was deeply moved by her love for her children, and the sacrifices she was willing to make. This is an extraordinary read and I recommend it to all historical fiction lovers. This is truly a literary masterpiece. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #book...

Review: The Red Garden by Alice Hoffman

The Red Garden  by  Alice Hoffman My rating:  3 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I am a huge fan of Alice Hoffman’s books. Her writing is beautiful and riveting. THE RED GARDEN has been on my TBR shelf for a while and picked it up over the weekend. It is the journey of generations after generations of people in one family and one town called Blackwell, located in Massachusetts. The story starts at the town foundation in 1750 by Hallie Brady and travels through time to modern days. It documents the birth and death of many, stories of ghosts, stories of bears, and stories of love. Although the concept of this book was quite unique, it got a bit repetitive after a while. It is nonetheless a good read. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookst...

Review: Our Darkest Night by Jennifer Robson

Our Darkest Night  by  Jennifer Robson My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I have read and seen many historical novels set in Italy during WWII. I appreciate the insights they offer on the war in these parts of the world. It also reveals the kindness of a Christian man and how he saves the life of one young Jewish woman. Review: The Project by Courtney Summers

The Project  by  Courtney Summers My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I was not sure how I would react to this book after I read the synopsis. Having been part of a stringent religious movement for many years, it has left me quite shaken when I finally decided to leave it, and it took a few years to find normality again. Therefore, I usually stay away from any cultic books. However, THE PROJECT by Courtney Summers intrigues me. I love the idea that a sister will do whatever it takes to convince her sister of the wrongdoing of this cult. If only Lo could find her sister. This book has all the cultic triggers, including a delusional charismatic leader. Although many parts of the story bothered me because they were reminders of my past, this book is a fantastic read with so many surprises and an outstanding ending. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagramm...

Review: The Shadow Box by Luanne Rice

The Shadow Box  by  Luanne Rice My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! Some authors have a way to lure you into the story right from the beginning. Luanne Rice is one of them. This is the second book I read by this author and it will not be the last. THE SHADOW BOX was a nail-biting, edge-of-seat, disquieting, and fantastic read. There are a lot of characters in this book, but each navigates the story in their silo, so it is easy to keep track of them. There are many triggers in this book: emotional and physical abuse, rape, and murder. The plot is extraordinary with lots of twists and turns and although you can guess who did the crime, you still wonder to the end if you are right. If you love intelligent and hair-rising thrillers, this one is for you. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofins...

Review: One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus

One of Us Is Lying  by  Karen M. McManus My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I am sure you have seen ONE OF US IS LYING by Karen M. McManus a few times on Bookstagram. I was lucky to find a brand-new copy of the book at my local used book store. First of all, I love this intriguing cover and secondly… the description got me thinking that this would be a great read. I was right. I loved this book. All the characters have their own secrets and each has reasons to be the real killer. I thought I knew for sure who killed Simon, but I was way off. The ending was really good and surprising. I am looking forward to reading the sequel soon. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #oneofus...

Review: Finlay Donovan Is Killing It by Elle Cosimano

Finlay Donovan Is Killing It  by  Elle Cosimano My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! HAPPY PUBLICATION DAY to FINLAY DONOVAN IS KILLING IT by Elle Cosimano. This book was an intriguing read. The plot was great, the characters greater, but there was something bugging me the entire time I read it. I think I had a hard time reconciling the idea of a mom with young children ending up in so much trouble. I loved the humorous and witty writing style. I loved that the ending is left open. Maybe we will see more of Finlay Donovan’s misadventures. Overall, it was an entertaining and fun read. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #finlaydonovaniskillingit #ellecosimano #minotaurinfluencer...

In this book, they end up at the Caligari Carnival where they will meet unusual characters and Madame Lulu, a clairvoyant.
