Review: The Girl the Sea Gave Back

The Girl the Sea Gave Back by Adrienne Young My rating: 3 of 5 stars Tova knows she is different than everyone else in the Svell clan. Not only is she a Truthtongue and can predict the future, she is also covered with mysterious marks which can only mean that she was born a Kyrr, a Northern clan. She does not remember leaving her clan and the Tala who found her in a half burnt boat when she was six, told her that she must have been sacrificed to their god. Tova understands that she is part of something greater than herself and when the Svell raised a cry of war, she decides to change the web of destiny. This book has it all: love, lost, courage, deception, and an epic battle. The pace was a bit slow at first as the author reveals more and more about the characters and the plot. The last battle was epic and worth the wait. This is a stand-alone book but could have been made into a series and be very successful. 🙋🏼‍♀️ Thank you, RainCoast Books for sending me an ARC of this be

Review: The Ventriloquists

The Ventriloquists by E.R. Ramzipoor My rating: 4 of 5 stars The Ventriloquists by E.R. Ramzipoor delivers an extraordinary story of courage and defaillance in a time of war. A German officer recruits a ring of resistance journalists to create the propaganda of all propaganda on behalf of the Nazis. Not having a choice, the journalists accept Gruppenführer Wolff’s offer to create a false “La Libre Belgique”, a popular resistance newspaper. Knowing that they will surely be executed as soon as they deliver this false newspaper, they secretly collaborate to create a special edition of “Le Soir”, a very popular newspaper controlled by the Nazis and have it available to the population just before the false “La Libre Belgique” is to be offered. The special edition of “Le Soir” would be a parody making fun of the Germans. The story is inspired by true events and provides the readers with a complete picture of this fantastic operation against the Nazis which took place in Belgium duri

Review: The Quintland Sisters

The Quintland Sisters by Shelley Wood My rating: 3 of 5 stars I was very curious to know more about the Dionne quintuplets and I think this book offers a peek at what took place between 1934 and 1939. The quintuplets were born in the small town of Callandar, Ontario to a local farmer and his wife. At birth, the biggest baby was about 3 lbs and the smallest just over 1 lb. No one expected them to survive but a medical team was dispatched and they accomplish nothing less than a miracle to keep them alive. At the age of three months, the five girls were moved to a hospital/nursery especially built for their survival and they spent most of their childhood at that location. The book covers many aspects of their lives including the custody battle between Dr. Dufoe and Mr. Olivia Dionne; as well as the exploitation of the quintuplets by the media, film industry and many more. It was a very interesting book. I would have given it 4❤️ but I did not like where the author took the story

Review: The Third Mrs. Durst

The Third Mrs. Durst by Ann Aguirre My rating: 4 of 5 stars This book was a white-knuckle thriller. Each element of the story built up to the grand finale. I would have never guess what was about to happen from the book description. It was so good! Review: Lady in the Lake

Lady in the Lake by Laura Lippman My rating: 3 of 5 stars The story was good and well delivered. Most of the characters were far from being likable but that was intended by the author. The story had a noir feeling and I like that. I was not completely surprised by the end and found it a bit anticlimactic. Overall it is an enjoyable read, just don’t expect a spectacular ending. #dogsandbooks #poodles #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #poodletoday #pawsandbooks #petsandbooks #poodlesandbooks #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #book #books #booklover #bookish #bookdragon #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookaddicted #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #ladyinthelake #lauralippman #bookreview View all my reviews

Review: Singapore Sapphire

Singapore Sapphire by A.M. Stuart My rating: 3 of 5 stars My daughter recently moved to Singapore and I thought it would be fun to read a book related to the history of this small country. Singapore Sapphire is the first book in a new series called Harriet Gordon Mystery. The story takes place in the early 1900’s. The book stars Harriet Gordon who just moved to Singapore to help her brother to run a school for boy. The school is unable to pay her so she advertises her services as a personal secretary. Her first client is an explorer who wants to publish his memoirs. On her second day working, she discovers Sir Oswald Newbold murdered. Inspector Robert Curran handles the case and soon finds out that Ms. Gordon is a knack for detective work. Together they will discover who and why Sir Newbold was murdered. This is a well-written book. The story and characters are strong and interesting. The plot has all the right elements for a wonderful mystery. Great start for this new series.

Review: Watching You

Watching You by Lisa Jewell My rating: 3 of 5 stars It took me a little while to get into this book. It has so many facets dealing with mental issues and inappropriate behaviour. The characters are well developed and each have a story on their own. Although at first it seemed that all the characters were disconnected, the ending wrapped the story very well and it all made sense. Watching You by Lisa Jewell is a well-written book and perfect for thriller lovers. #dogsandbooks #poodles #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #poodletoday #pawsandbooks #petsandbooks #poodlesandbooks #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #book #books #booklover #bookish #bookdragon #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookaddicted #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #watchingyou #lisajewell #bookreview View all my reviews

Review: Vow of Thieves

Vow of Thieves by Mary E. Pearson My rating: 4 of 5 stars This is the second and final book in the Dance of Thieves Series by Mary E. Pearson. Ms. Pearson has a gift for writing epic YA fantasy stories. This series was a grand journey filled with battles, deception, greed, courage, ingenuity, friendship, and love. Kazi and Jase will face many challenges to save their family, friends and nations. This book brings the perfect conclusion to this fantastic series and will leave you with a sense that you witnessed one of the most amazing adventures. I recommend you read both books as close as possible as the second book picks up where the first one left off. I had to refer to the first book a few times to remember some of the characters but beside that I was right back in the story. Love this Series and I am looking forward to the next one Ms. Pearson will come up with. 💁🏼‍️ Thank you, RainCoast Books for sending me an ARC of this exciting new book. Vow of Thieves by Mary E. Pea
