Lucy on the Wild Side  by  Kerry Rea My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! LUCY ON THE WILD SIDE by Kerry Rea was sooooo gooood! I enjoyed this enemies to lovers romcom. The relationship between Lucy and Kai was beautiful and sexy. I loved all the animal facts she told each other. I learned quite a bite of new things. I also loved everything about the gorillas, especially little Keeva. This story warmed my heart. The Ways We Hide  by  Kristina McMorris My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! Wow! I just finished THE WAYS WE HIDE by Kristina McMorris and I am spent. Ms. McMorris took me on an emotional roller-coaster that shook my soul. Her writing is beautiful and full of imageries. It was like I was walking beside the characters, seeing what they saw and feeling what they felt. It was surreal. This WWII tale is extraordinary. Fenna’s story was beautiful and heartbreaking. I loved her intelligence, determination, and courage. This story of family, friendship, and love is magical, and it is a must read. Heartstopper: Volume One  by  Alice Oseman My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Happy Monday, Book Friends! The Pooches & Pages Book Club discussed HEARTSTOPPER by Alice Oseman last night. Thank you, Jaclyn, (@thewatsonreview) for leading the discussion. There is a lot of hype about this book and Netflix series. I liked the book but did not like the illustrations much. I felt that many of the illustrations were fillers and brought nothing to the story. The story itself is lovely and deserved all the hype it is getting. The book is written by a female, and I think she succeeded in capturing the emotional aspect of the love relationship between Charlie and Nick. I wonder if the book would have been written differently if the author had been male. The ending was good but way too open for interpretation. I will get the other books and continue reading. Soul Taken  by  Patricia Briggs My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I promised to take my time reading the latest Mercedes Thompson book. Did I do it? Nope!!! I stayed up and finished it because it is soooooo goooood!!! SOUL TAKEN by Patricia Briggs is more than I expected. I loved the plot, the fight scenes and seeing Mercy and Adam getting even closer. The characters were all kick arses. I don’t know how often I said that this is my favourite series, and I will not stop saying it. There are now thirteen books in the series, and I hope it will never end. This one had the feel of Ms. Briggs’ first books in the series and Mercy was fiercer than ever. Mercy Thompson: Moon Called Vol. 2  by  Patricia Briggs My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I just finished Mercy Thompson: Moon Called Vol. 2 by David Lawrence and illustrated by Amelia Woo and Zach Matheny. This is based on the novel Moon Called by Patricia Briggs. I recently read volume 1 and loved it. Volume 2 was even better. They changed the way they illustrated Stefan, the vampire, and it is so much better and closer to how I imagined him. The ending was a bit rushed but captured the essence of the original novel. A Proposal They Can't Refuse  by  Natalie Caña My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! A PROPOSAL THEY CAN’T REFUSE by Natalie Caña was hot and sexy. The relationship between Kamilah and Liam had all the right ups and downs to keep you rooting for them. I love the humour and sassiness in this story. I also enjoyed the family mischievous meddling and how they help Kamilah and Liam realise that they were meant for each other. The story is not all laughs, there are a few serious moments relating to the death of a parent and the end of life of a grandparent. Those scenes brought realism to the story and were quite sad. I really tried loving THE BOY WITH THE BOOKSTORE by Sarah Echavarre Smith but it was a disastrous love story. Joelle was weak and needy. Max was rude and way too moody. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder  by  Holly Jackson My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! A GOOD GIRL'S GUIDE TO MURDER by Holly Jackson was really good read. I enjoyed the characters and the complex plot. Pip’s investigation of Andie to prove that Sal did not do it, was thorough, logical, and daring. The investigation outcome was a surprise, I suspected someone else all along. Overall, it is a good read. A much younger me would have given a 5❤️ to this book but I had a hard time believing that a teenager would be able to solve such a complex crime and had to remind myself that this is a novel and not spend too much time wondering about that fact. The Friend Zone  by  Abby Jimenez My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! THE FRIEND Zone by Abby Jimenez is a beautiful and touching romance novel. It deals with many sensitive subjects such as emotional insecurities, death of a loved one, and infertility. The author did a great job at treating these subjects with respect. I love the characters in this book; they felt real to me. I particularly enjoyed Kristen. I related to her on an emotional level. Despite dealing with serious subjects, this “friends to lovers” story also has many fun moments. Overall, it is entertaining, thought-provoking, and sexy. Dogversations: Conversations with My Dogs  by  David Leswick My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I received a finished copy of DOGVERSATIONS, CONVERSATIONS WITH MY DOGS by David Leswick. First of all, this book is beautiful and would be a wonderful piece on a coffee table. Each page includes a stunning picture taken by David of his dogs and a conversation relating to the picture. I took my time reading each conversation. Some were funny, some were serious, all were touching. This graphic-novel memoir is filled with conflicts, self-discovery, and finding who you want to be. I enjoyed the illustrations and the chronological order of the story. I felt for Marisabina and hoped everything would get better for her throughout the story. This is a good read to understand the challenges that come with being a child of an immigrant family in the 50s’ and 60s’. The story is about Ava Grace Fairchild, owner of the antique shop in Laurel Springs, Alabama. Ava Grace has her life planned, but her long-time boyfriend, Skip, throws her a curved ball that changes everything. This is when she meets Luka Zadorov, a hockey player on the Yellowhammer team. It is lust at first sight, but is Ava Grace ready to move to another relationship, especially with someone who is looking to be traded to another hockey team? This story is emotional and sexy. I love the intensity between Ava Grace and Luka. I recommend this warmed romance novel. Moon Called, Volume 1: Issues #1-4  by  Patricia Briggs My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! For those who know me well, you know how much I love the Mercedes Thompson Series by Patricia Briggs. This paranormal series is filled with action, danger, and love. Ms. Briggs just released the thirteenth book in the series, and I am waiting to get my copy to read it. In the meantime, I am reading the graphic novel versions of the books. MOON CALLED, Volume 1 is based on the first book in the series and was written by David Lawrence and illustrated by Amelia Woo and Zach Matheny. The book follows the original story well and the illustrations of Mercy are awesome. I guess we all build an image of our favourite characters in our heads as we read. This is why the way Adam is presented in the graphic novel does not match that image and it was challenging to like the character. I think Adam's illustrations will grow on me as I continue reading the graphic novel series. I still loved

The War Librarian  by  Addison Armstrong My rating:  3 of 5 stars 📚 Happy Saturday Book Friends! THE WAR LIBRARIAN is a two-time historical novel about two women linked by a family secret. The details about the WWI field hospital were interesting and sad at the same time. I was particularly surprised to read that African American injured soldiers were kept apart from the other patients, not because of the injuries, but because of the colour of their skin. It was also upsetting to read that in the late seventies, segregation was still happening, and that African American Marines were discriminated against.
