Blog Tour: THE TEARS OF MONTERINI by Amanda Weinberg

📚Hello Book Friends! I am so happy to be part of the blog tour for THE TEARS OF MONTERINI by Amanda Weinberg. I do not remember the last time a book made me cry like that. The story is beyond words beautiful and touching and is about two families united by friendship who will fight for survival and love during the difficult years under the reign of Mussolini and the German invasion. The story takes place in beautiful Monterini, Italy between 1921 to 1946. Jacobo and Angelo have been friends from their youth. Their wives give birth on the same day but Jacobo’s wife dies in childbirth, leaving him to raise a daughter. Angelo’s son Rico and Jacobo’s daughter Bella are inseparable and, in their teens, declare their love to one another, but their love is not possible since Rico is Catholic, and Bella is Jewish. To please her father, Bella marries Michele, but her heart belongs to Rico. War is declared and soon the small village of Monterini is invaded by the enemy leaving Jacobo, Bella, Angelo, and Rico to make their own decision for survival. Will Bella and Rico find happiness?

This book was not at all what I thought it would be; it was much better. The story is whimsical and full of magical moments but also heart wrenching when you least expect it. If you love historical novels with a forbidden love story, this is it!! Any how… you need to read this book. It is a masterpiece of storytelling.

💌 My Rating: ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️/5

✏️ Synopsys: Monterini, Italy. 1921. Jacobo Levi, an intellectual dreamer, works in the family bookshop. Angelo Ghione, a contadino, makes good wine by singing to the grapes. Lifetime best friends, their Jewish and Catholic families live side by side amidst a backdrop of village communal life, Etruscan tales, and the growth of Benito Mussolini. Born on the same day, their children grow up and fall in love. When the 1938 racial laws are passed, the love between Bella and Rico thrives amidst and perhaps because of the fear and uncertainty. When Angelo discovers their liaison he suggests they marry but life is complicated and tensions simmer beneath the surface of love and friendship. When war is declared on the day of Bella's wedding to Michele a fellow Jew, the peaceful village they live in is torn apart, and the Levis find themselves displaced and fighting for their lives. Will life ever be the same again? The Tears of Monterini is a story of love and betrayal, loyalty, and friendship. Inspired by true events, this beautifully written debut will appeal to readers interested in history, Italy, romance, family dynamics, and conflict.

🕵🏼‍♀️ About the author: The Tears of Monterini is Amanda’s first novel. She studied Modern Languages at the University of East Anglia, followed by a PGCE at King’s College London. She ran a company in International Advertising Sales and now teaches French and German. She lives in London with her family and spends a lot of time in Pitigliano Italy, the setting for the Monterini of the title. The book is inspired by true events in the Tuscany and Emilia-Romana areas.

Review: The Last Love Note by Emma Grey

The Last Love Note  by  Emma Grey My rating:  3 of 5 stars In THE LAST LOVE NOTE by Emma Grey, I embarked on a journey filled with conflicting emotions. Despite my initial eagerness to delve deeper into the narrative, the unexpected weightiness of the prose caught me off guard. The narrative's frequent jumps in timeline, especially in audiobook format, proved disorienting and challenging to follow. However, Leeanna Walsman's narration was outstanding, rescuing the experience with her excellent delivery. The novel grapples with poignant themes, exploring the profound ideas of seizing life's moments and nurturing hope amid pain. Yet, occasional forced dialogue and slapstick humor felt incongruent with the somber tone. Nevertheless, the commendable growth of the characters and the author's skill in infusing joy and hope into a challenging narrative make it a worthwhile read. While my personal experience may differ, many readers have found this book highly enjoyable, so I e...

The Memory Clinic: Stories of Hope and Healing for Alzheimer's Patients and Their Families by Tiffany Chow My rating: 5 of 5 stars Wow!! What an appropriate book for this time in my life!! I entered a giveaway to win this book and I kept my finger crossed, hoping to be selected. What a joy when I found out I was one of the winners. Let me explained why this book was so important to me. My mom has been diagnosed with Alzheimer two years ago. When I found out I was devastated. My mom's dad (my grandfather) died of complications of dementia and suffered from Alzheimer too. I have horrible memories of his last days and I could only imagine my mother going through the same and it scared me. There is no cure for Alzheimer... yet!! When I read the book synopsis, I knew I needed to read it. I want to know what I can do to reduce my chance to get Alzheimer. Let's be honest here.. my grand-father had it, my mom has it... I don't want to be an ostrich and ignore the risks by...

Review: Every Note Played

Every Note Played by Lisa Genova My rating: 5 of 5 stars I want to thank NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for granting me an advanced copy of the Every Note Played book by Lisa Genova. Lisa Genova, author of "Still Alice" and "Inside the O'Briens", delivers yet another masterpiece. Every Note Played is a novel which addresses the devastating effect of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) on a celebrated pianist and his family. ALS (a.k.a. motor neuron disease (MND) or Lou Gehrig's disease) causes the death of neurons controlling voluntary muscles. Over time, as the muscles of the body break down, someone living with ALS loses the ability to walk, talk, eat, swallow, and eventually breathe. At 45, Richard is diagnosed with ALS. His career is over and he has no one to turn to for help. Karina, his ex-wife, driven by guilt, becomes his reluctant caretaker. This endeavour is more than she bargains for, and both she and Richard are faced w...
