Some books have a way to pull deep on the threads of your heart and leave you breathless and changed. FIREKEEPER’S DAUGHTER by Angeline Boulley is one of those books for me. The Pooches and Pages Bookclub read and discussed this book yesterday. I enjoyed our open and honest conversations. I opted to listen to this book, and I am glad I did. I would have missed on the beautiful melodious pronunciation of the Ojibwe language. I loved this book so much. It has strong characters, a solid story, and a perfect ending. My grandmother is Huron and I wish I knew more about her ancestors’ culture and traditions. I think it is time to start looking into my indigenous ancestry and discover more about them. But I regress… You need to read this book for yourself and discover a new author who brings to light wonderful indigenous traditions and who is not afraid to address the negative aspects of the native communities.
