Dreamland  by  Nicholas Sparks My rating:  3 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! Mr. Sparks has a way with words that always stir many emotions in me. This book is no exception. I enjoyed the characters and the dual storyline. Although I guessed the connection early on, it did not stop me from loving the story and strong family connection presented in the book. The final twist in the epilogue came as a feel-good surprise. Dogs of the Deadlands: THE TIMES CHILDREN'S BOOK OF THE WEEK  by  Anthony McGowan My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! It has been a while since a book had me in tears at the end. DOGS OF THE DEADLANDS by Anthony McGowan just did that. This middle-grade book is a beautiful story of family, courage, and fate. Some parts were difficult to read because of the death content but that’s nature’s way and it is not avoidable. I love Misha’s story and I cheered for him to the end. Femme Magnifique  by  Shelly Bond My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I just finished FEMME MAGNIFIQUE by Shelly Bond. What an inspiring graphic novel about women who were not afraid to take the lead and make a difference. Each story is beautifully illustrated and offers a glimpse of the life and accomplishments of a woman. From biblical characters to skateboarders to artists, these 50 women’s influences and accomplishments are impressive and inspirational. Two women stood out while I read this book, scientist Rosalind Franklin and actress Carrie Fisher. Some of those women I had never heard of and I spent some time researching them on Google to get to know them better. The relationship between Lucy and Kai was beautiful and sexy. I loved all the animal facts she told each other. I learned quite a bite of new things. The Ways We Hide  by  Kristina McMorris My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! Wow! I just finished THE WAYS WE HIDE by Kristina McMorris and I am spent. Ms. McMorris took me on an emotional roller-coaster that shook my soul. Her writing is beautiful and full of imageries. It was like I was walking beside the characters, seeing what they saw and feeling what they felt. It was surreal. This WWII tale is extraordinary. Fenna’s story was beautiful and heartbreaking. I loved her intelligence, determination, and courage. This story of family, friendship, and love is magical, and it is a must read. Heartstopper: Volume One  by  Alice Oseman My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Happy Monday, Book Friends! The Pooches & Pages Book Club discussed HEARTSTOPPER by Alice Oseman last night. Thank you, Jaclyn, (@thewatsonreview) for leading the discussion. There is a lot of hype about this book and Netflix series. I liked the book but did not like the illustrations much. I felt that many of the illustrations were fillers and brought nothing to the story. The story itself is lovely and deserved all the hype it is getting. The book is written by a female, and I think she succeeded in capturing the emotional aspect of the love relationship between Charlie and Nick. I wonder if the book would have been written differently if the author had been male. The ending was good but way too open for interpretation. I will get the other books and continue reading. Soul Taken  by  Patricia Briggs My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I promised to take my time reading the latest Mercedes Thompson book. Did I do it? Nope!!! I stayed up and finished it because it is soooooo goooood!!! SOUL TAKEN by Patricia Briggs is more than I expected. I loved the plot, the fight scenes and seeing Mercy and Adam getting even closer. The characters were all kick arses. I don’t know how often I said that this is my favourite series, and I will not stop saying it. There are now thirteen books in the series, and I hope it will never end. This one had the feel of Ms. Briggs’ first books in the series and Mercy was fiercer than ever.
