The book follows Tess Lane, the owner of Lakeside Books, who is still reeling from her husband's mysterious death. When River Harrison, her husband's best friend and whom she despises, appears on her doorstep, Tess is forced to confront the unanswered questions that have been haunting her for years and find forgiveness.

The author skillfully weaves together a tale of self-discovery and healing as Tess embarks on a journey with River to uncover the truth behind her husband's death. The novel is beautifully written, with well-drawn characters and a vivid sense of place. Along the way, she is supported by her close-knit group of friends who form the backbone of the weekly book club that she hosts. It is a good and clean romance novel.
