Goodbye Joy

It is with great sadness that I write this blog post today. At about 2pm this afternoon, Joy was put to sleep after a long and full life.

Joy was born on January 9, 1996; she would have been 15 years old in a few days. We got her when she was only a few weeks old. She was healthy all her life until last summer. We waited a far as we could, but this week she got worse and I knew it was time to let go. It was really not an easy decision. I was away this week at my parents and came back last night to find her worse than ever. I call the vet this morning and by 2pm, she was gone.

I have been second guessing my decision for all day. Should I have paid the Vet to try to fix her, knowing that this could have added a few months or years to her life? Should I just have waited a few more days and see if she would have got better? Am I a monster for ending her life and not letting die of natural causes? What could I have done to make things better for her?

I miss her already. I miss her a lot! She was by far the best dog I have ever had. My heart is aching and I just can't stop crying. Today I lost my girl! Goodbye Joy! I love you!

Guylou's Inimitability - Smile Challenge

A smile is a curve that sets everything straight.
~Phyllis Diller

It is so easy to make someone smile, just smile at them and they won't be able to resist and will smile back.

This week, Guylou's Inimitability is having a "Smile" Challenge. All you have to do is use the "Smile" Bingo card provide for free on GI Blog together with another digistamp, preferably a GI digistamp since only cards made with GI digis can be eligible to win. The winner gets a GI digi of her choice and a Guest Designer spot on an upcoming challenge. Good stuff! The challenge will run until January 6th so you have plenty of time to make a project or more to increase your chance to win. Have fun and wear a smile today - one size fits all! :)

I made a birthday card for my daughter who just turned 20. 20!!!! I just can't believe it!! What happened? Where did the time go? I am way too young to have a 20 year old daughter! LOL! I wanted her card to reflect her cheerfulness and maturity. I love the "Bernadette" image; she is pretty and fun! The "Smile" Bingo card was a great addition to the theme. Overall I was quite happy with the card. My daughter loved it! That's really what counts.

Birthday Card for my brother

I made this card for my brother. For some reason, this image reminded me of him. I used this week Mojo Monday Sketch (MOJO166) to make it.

Reminiscing on wonderful winter memories

Growing up, we used to live for snow days. Where I grew up, we get on average 3 meters (over 10 feet) of snow every winter. Every school day, we would get up and look outside. If snowflakes were falling, the radio would be turned on and we would listen expectantly to see if the schools would be opened or closed. The house would fill with cheers when the weatherman would announce that the schools are closed.

We would eat a good warm breakfast and bundle up in our sturdy snowsuits. If mom said "Dress some more", we would just layer it up until she would be satisfied that we would not freeze to death. We would then ran out of the house, grab our sleds and head for the hills. Kids would already be there and the fun would begin. Snowflakes would surround us and the wind would bite our already red and runny noses and make our faces tingle.

We would sled down the hill, then build a snowman or a fort, make angels in the snow and start a snow ball fight to claim our territories. By lunch time, we would hear our moms calling us to come in for a bite. Hot chocolate and warm food would be waiting for us. No time to waste though, as soon as we would be done, we would return to Winter Wonderland and do it all over again.

I am all grown up now and moved away from home due to work. There is not much snow where I live now, but some morning I walk out of the house to discover that it snowed all night. Every thing looks so much better with that fresh blanket of snow. As I walk to my car, I can't resist to pick up some snow and form it into a snow ball and reminisce once more on those wonderful winter memories.

Guylou's Inimitability is hosting an "elegant" challenge starting November 18th and ending on December 2nd. The winner will be selected randomly and will win a GI digi of her choice and a Guest Designer spot on an upcoming GI challenge. You can enter any new card or project, but to be eligible to win, you must use a GI digi. You can find all the details on Guylou's Inimitability Blog.

The DT did wonders with one of GI digis called "Gertrude". Each card is so elegant and gorgeous. You have to go see them on Guylou's Inimitability Blog. You will be quite impressed!!

Here are two cards I made with Gertrude. I love her because I can paper piece her dress. She is elegant!! I guess that's where the inspiration for the challenge came from! :)

Mark and Gift

Introducing Mark! He is a new character I started to draw. In this image Mark is holding a gift that will make you happy. Mark is a charmer... a sexy charmer. I fret a bit over a perfect sentiment to go with this image. I brainstorm with some of the ladies on my CDAC group and I came up with this one:

Front: I got you a sexy gift...
Inside: a handmade card with a sexy guy on it! LOL!!

Here's a new image I drew to celebrate 250 members on my CDAC group. It is available for free on the group until November 14th. I inspired myself again from my friend Brenda; she is an Office Manager. I made this card for my VP who was just let go. I will miss her; she was a good leader.

Toilet Paper Roll Box

I became a follower of So Not Mocha-vated and she had a wonderful tutorial on how to make pillow boxes using paper towel rolls. I inspired myself from their tuturial and created my own pillow boxes but using toilet paper rolls instead.

Step 1: Retrieve an empty toilet paper roll (hopefully, you won't have to go at the bottom of the garbage can to get it!)

Step 2: Flatten the roll using a bone folder for a crisp edge. I think a ruler would do the trick too.

Step 3: Using a round object such as a template cutter or a lid, trace a curve using a pointy object or your bone folder. This will help to fold the ends.

Step 4: Repeat the same on each ends on both sides.

Step 5: Cut a piece of paper the same width as the roll and long enough to go all the way around it. This is a great way to use your scraps.

Step 6: Apply a strong adhesive to one side of the roll. Make sure to put some along the ends.

Step 7: Carefully line up paper, adhere. Next, add adhesive to the other side of the roll and wrap the paper around. Secure the last flap with adhesive and adhere.

Step 8:  With a finger, push in one end of the roll.

Step 9: Repeat step 8 with all the folds and your pillow box is all done.

This pillow box is a perfect size for gift certificate, money or jewelery.

You can add a ribbon (as in the first image) or a big flower to give it a finished touch.

I hope you enjoy this!

Congratulations on your new house

A co-worker asked me to make a card for another co-worker who just moved in her new place. I designed this digistamp with her in mind. She is a bubbly young girl and this is a first house. I wanted to capture the contentment of being a home owner for the first time.

We Thank You Card

This is for the Mojo Monday 162 (MOJO16). This is the second card I make this week using one of my rubber stamps. I had forgotten how much work it is to use them. The right amount of ink, the right amount of pressure and the cleaning... my, my, my!! Just made me appreciate digistamps even more. :)
