The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
THE WOMAN IN CABIN 10 by Ruth Ware presents an intriguing mystery set on a luxury cruise ship. Lo Blacklock, a travel journalist, witnesses a disturbing incident but finds herself ignored by the ship's crew and fellow passengers. While the book offers a promising premise, the execution falls short due to the frustrating portrayal of the main character. Lo's constant state of exhaustion, alcohol consumption, and lack of basic knowledge undermine her credibility as a seasoned journalist. Her social awkwardness and poor decision-making hinder the story's progression. It is difficult to believe that someone so inept could successfully solve a complex mystery. However, the book gains momentum in its final third, as Lo finally begins to demonstrate intelligence and the pace quickens. The unveiling of the mystery is satisfying, providing an interesting conclusion. It is regrettable that the main character's shortcomings overshadow the enjoyment of the overall plot. This book had the potential to be a great thriller, but the reader must endure a flawed protagonist until the very end.
