Review: Such a Quiet Place by Megan Miranda

Such a Quiet Place  by  Megan Miranda My rating:  4 of 5 stars SUCH A QUIET PLACE by Megan Miranda was a slow-burn mystery-thriller with many great moments. The final twist was a good one. Ms. Miranda created characters who were all equally unlikeable and could have been a suspect at a time or another. The main character, Harper, was particularly difficult to like because of her weak personality and bad decisions. If you wonder, the author did that by design so to keep us guessing. I enjoyed the way the suspense was built up and how the pieces came together in the end. Excellent read! #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #canadianbookishlovers #suchaquietplace #meganmiranda #simonschuster ...

Review: We Are the Brennans by Tracey Lange

We Are the Brennans  by  Tracey Lange My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! WE ARE THE BRENNANS by Tracey Lange resonated loud and clear with me. It felt so familiar just like being at home. This is a story about the Brennans siblings and the dynamic of their relationships. The Brennans is an Irish Catholic family from New York. The story follows the siblings as they each face the consequences of the past and the challenges of the present. Although they have their differences, they also have common history that will either mend them or break them. Which one will it be? WE ARE THE BRENNANS is Ms. Lange’s debut novel. She is an author to watch. Her writing style is intelligent, moving, and thought-provoking. I absolutely loved how she used the end of one chapter to start the next. Each chapter offered a different POV which enhanced the story. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author. In the meantime, pick up a copy of this book and enjoy! #booksta...

Review: The Good Lie by A.R. Torre

The Good Lie  by  A.R. Torre My rating:  5 of 5 stars This is the first book by A.R. Torre I have the pleasure reading and it won’t be the last. I am pulled in and came out for air only when I had to. This novel has everything you want from a great thriller. The characters are intriguing and keep you on your toes. The plot is intelligent, dark, and misleading. I had a few jaw-dropping moments while I read. If you are a fan of well written thrillers, this one is for you. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #canadianbookishlovers #thegoodlie #artorre #thomasallenandson #bookreview View all my reviews

Review: Her Last Breath by Hilary Davidson

Her Last Breath  by  Hilary Davidson My rating:  3 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! HER LAST BREATH by Hilary Davidson is the third book I read from this author. I had high expectations since I loved her other two books. This one was good but not as gripping. The “who did it” moment was surprising but the story did not feel as together as I am used to from this author. It was still enjoyable, and the ending was unexpected. Good read overall. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #canadianbookishlovers #herlastbreath #hilarydavidson #thomasallenandson #bookreview View all my reviews

Review: A Woman of Intelligence by Karin Tanabe

A Woman of Intelligence  by  Karin Tanabe My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! The moment I saw the cover of A WOMAN OF INTELLIGENCE by Karin Tanabe, I was enthralled. It is classy and beautiful. The book has a good plot, but I was left with many questions. I am not sure why, but I was hoping for an ending such as the one in A Beautiful Mind by Sylvia Nasar. This is not what I got. The book is about a high society mother of two toddlers who is approached by the FBI to become an informant. She was close once to a man who is now considered a high ranked Soviet spy. The author captured the essence of the New York social life in the 40s’, the paranoia surrounding communism, and the views about the expected role of women as mothers. It might have not gone the way I expected, but it was still an enjoyable read. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #book...

Review: The Secret Keeper of Jaipur by Alka Joshi

The Secret Keeper of Jaipur  by  Alka Joshi My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! THE SECRET KEEPER OF JAIPUR was as colourful and whimsical as The Henna Artist. Ms. Joshi’s writing is phenomenal, and she has a talent to keep you guessing for what will happened next and cheering for all the delightful characters in her books. There is a charming positivity in the story that leaves you content with whatever outcome is presented. This is a must read it you have read The Henna Artist. Review: For the Love of Friends by Sara Goodman Confino

For the Love of Friends  by  Sara Goodman Confino My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! FOR THE LOVE OF FRIENDS by Sara Goodman Confino was exactly what I needed for my vacation. This book is funny, likable, and relatable. I found myself relating to Lily Weiss in many ways. I have those “friends” that commented on my weight, my age, my “need to do something about those lines near my eyes”. Luckily, my family is not like hers, although my mom has some similarities to hers (she is a great critic). Being in the wedding part of five weddings in the same year is quite an exploit. Lily handles this the best she can. It might be tricky, but it is definitely entertaining. And if Lily can find love amid all that chaos, she is not doing too bad unless she messes up real bad. I really enjoyed this fun read. It is a perfect summer book. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #b...

Review: The Cursed Girls by Caro Ramsay

The Cursed Girls  by  Caro Ramsay My rating:  3 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! It might have been the wrong time to read THE CURSED GIRLS by Caro Ramsay. I had a hard time getting into the story. The way the book started, I expected a horror book, but as I read, I realized that it was a crime fiction. The writing is good, but the characters lacked definitions. The story hooked me at the start, but I felt lost quickly, and had to force myself to finish the book. The ending brought the story together well enough. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #thecursedgirls #caroramsay #raincoastbooks #blackthornbooks #bookreview #canadianbookishlovers View all my reviews

Review: Hostage by Clare Mackintosh

Hostage  by  Clare Mackintosh My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! Clare MacKintosh does it again. She delivers a fantastic, nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat thriller that does not disappoint. HOSTAGE has all the elements of a great thriller: suspense, danger, and life-threatening moments. This book is told in several voices, and each reveals the plot little by little. This would have been a 5❤️ if the book had ended with the main ordeal and did not bring up a secondary ending. Since I rather not give you any spoilers, you will have to read the book to understand my line of thoughts. You won’t regret it, it is a great read nonetheless. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #hostage...

Review: The Seven Day Switch by Kelly Harms

The Seven Day Switch  by  Kelly Harms My rating:  3 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! HAPPY PUBLICATION DAY to THE SEVEN DAY SWITCH by Kelly Harms. This is a fast and fun read about two mothers who have a love-hate relationship and end up switching bodies and lives for seven days. I knew from the get-go that this story would be like Freaky Friday, and it was that pretty much. I was hoping for an element of surprise, and it did not materialize. It was nonetheless an entertaining read. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #canadianbookishlovers #thesevendayswitch #kellyharms #amazonbooks #lakeunionbooks #bookreview View all my reviews

Review: Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel

Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic  by  Alison Bechdel My rating:  3 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! The Pooches and Pages Book Club read FUN HOME: A FAMILY TRAGICOMIC by Alison Bechdel this month. This is not the first time I read a graphic novel, but it is the graphic memoir I read. I love the illustrations; they are engaging and communicate well the feel of the narration. The memoir was interesting, if not repetitive. It felt like the author was trying to get a point across and went at it from all angles. The tragic loss of her father has impacted her tremendously. I relate to that as I lost my father to Covid last December and did not have a chance to say goodbye. This can be traumatic. On the other hand, I would have liked the author to expand more on her “coming out”. It felt like she discovered, at a moment in time, that she was a lesbian and that this was not a lifelong discovery. This is not how most of my LGBTQ2+ friends describe themselves. I am also not certain ...

Review: The Music of Bees by Eileen Garvin

The Music of Bees  by  Eileen Garvin My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I LOVE BEES!!! They fascinate me! I just finished reading THE MUSIC OF BEES BY Eileen Garvin and I am in awe. This is such a beautiful book. I love the story, the characters, and the awesome facts about the bees. I love the recurring theme of redemption and new beginnings throughout the book. It is a short book with lots of punch. It is a reminder to be kind to the bees… our survival depends on that. Here are some facts about honeybees: 🐝 Bees have 5 eyes. 🐝 Bees are insects, so they have 6 legs. 🐝 Male bees in the hive are called drones. 🐝 Bees fly about 20 mph. 🐝 Female bees in the hive (except the queen) are called worker bees. 🐝 Number of eggs laid by queen: 2,000 per day is the high. bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #read...
