Evergreen by Brenda Pandos My rating: 4 of 5 stars This is the second book in the Mer Tales series. Most second books in a series are not as exciting as the first one. They usually set the story up for the grand finale. Evergreen was exactly that. There were good action sequences and some important elements of the story were revealed. This is a nice light reading. The Canary Room by Edwin F. Casebeer My rating: 2 of 5 stars I received a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway in exchange for an honest review. I got to page 54 and just could not continue this novel. The different font treatments are aggravating and sometime the font is so small it is hard to read the text. The story just did not grab me enough to continue. Although this novel was not for me; it doesn't mean that it is not for you. This novel is about the life of a 12 year old whose parents are divorced and he is asked to live with another family during the months that follow the attack on Pearl Harbour. It deals with Herman's way to adapt to the separation, to the repercussions of the war and more. View all my reviews

The Sleuth Sisters by Maggie Pill My rating: 4 of 5 stars What a fantastic book!!!! I particularly liked that the main characters are women in their late forties, early fifties, and that they are portrayed as strong, intelligent and witty. This is a great detective story with all the right elements. The dynamic between the three sisters is well depicted and anyone coming from a family made of many siblings of the same gender would relate to the relationship complexities and clashing of personalities. The book has also a fun side story which made me chuckle. I am looking forward to reading the next book. View all my reviews

Carrots by Colleen Helme My rating: 4 of 5 stars I got Carrots for free through Book Bud (www.bookbud.com). It was the perfect book after reading a long, very involved and deep novel. I love Colleen Helme's light writing style. The book plot is fun and full of ups and downs in the action department. I like that the author did not polish the main characters and that she even succeeded to make you like the worst of them. This is the first book in a series. I suggest you read it before any other book because it sets the foundation for all the other stories. View all my reviews

Everblue by Brenda Pandos My rating: 4 of 5 stars I got a free copy of this book on Amazon. The cover is gorgeous! The story is interesting and I can see how this could possibly become a series of movies. I did not know much about mermaids and mermen, but after reading this book I am interested to know more. If Dogs Could Blog by Pam Torres My rating: 4 of 5 stars I won this book in a Goodreads contest. I entered the contest because the book had to do with dogs and I love dogs. I also was interested to read this book because I hope one day to be able to write books for the same audience. I loved this book. The story was well planned and executed. The characters were well defined and interesting. Each chapter opened the curtain wider to reveal the story. I also loved the illustrations. This book dealt with difficult subjects and did it well. The young readers will enjoy this great story and learn a few thngs at the same time. View all my reviews

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt My rating: 4 of 5 stars The Goldfinch was not what I was expecting. First of all, I thought (for some reason) that the story was taking place in the 40s or 50s. I was taken by surprise in the first chapter when I realised that this was a modern novel. Donna Tartt's writing style is beautiful. She sometime over-describes scenes, but none-the-less she paints a beautiful story with all shades of the color spectrum. This story is touching, unnerving and often frustrating. I loved all its ups and downs! I encourage anyone who is tempted to stop reading it, to give it a chance and let the story take its fold and bring you to conclusion. View all my reviews
