Review: The Council of Animals by Nick McDonell

The Council of Animals  by  Nick McDonell My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I love reading unusual books. THE COUNCIL OF ANIMALS by Nick McDonell was exactly that. It is a modern fable that decides the fate of the human race. A group of animals gather one day to decide if humans should be allowed to exist. Humanity lost by one vote. Some animals on the council disagree with the decision and embark on a journey to find a way to save humanity. Will they succeed or are we doomed? The book is though-provoking. The illustrations by Steven Tabbutt are beautiful. If you are looking for something different to read or if you love fables and tales, I recommend this one. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookc...

Review: Life, Unscheduled by Kristin Rockaway

Life, Unscheduled  by  Kristin Rockaway My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I am buddy reading LIFE, UNSCHEDULED by Kristin Rockaway with my good friend Annie (a.k.a. @pawsandpagesbyannie). I suggested this book for our buddy read not knowing much about the book. As soon as started reading it, I recognised myself in the main character. There was a time in my life when work was everything. I would work late evenings and weekends for a chance to climb the corporate ladder. Like Nicole, I eventually learned that work is not everything and that finding your happy place in life is more important. This book has it all: great characters, awesome plot, beautiful romance, and a happy ever after ending. I recommend you get a copy and enjoy this remarkable book soon. You will not regret it. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bo...

Review: Twelve Dates of Christmas by Laurel Greer

Twelve Dates of Christmas  by  Laurel Greer My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! TWELVE DATES OF CHRISTMAS by Laurel Greer is another fantabulous Christmas romance book. I loved the heated moments between Luke and Emma. The author set up their love story perfectly from the crush they had in high school, right to the magnetism in their adulthood. It was beautiful to see the attraction turned into love. Although this is the 7th book in the Sutter Creek, Montana Series; it can easily be read as a stand-alone. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #twelvedatesofchristmas #laurelgreer #Harlequin #HarlequinBooks #romance #amreadingromance #HarlequinSeries #CategoryRomance #HarlequinBoo...

Review: Survive the Night by Riley Sager

Survive the Night  by  Riley Sager My rating:  3 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! In October, The Pooches & Pages Book Club selected SURVIVE THE NIGHT by Riley Sager for their October read. As many of you know, I am a scaredy cat when it comes to scary books. I was a bit concerned when we selected this book for our book club, and I must admit that I was on the edge of my seat for at least half of the book. I listened to the book and the narrator was really good at building tension. The characters were decent but not consistent. Halfway through the book, the plot lost its fire and was no longer scary. The ending twist was nice and surprising. When the audio was done, I was left with a lot of questions and that was a downer. Nevertheless, if I just ignore these unanswered questions, I think this is a good read overall. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer...

Review: Other People's Things by Kerry Anne King

Other People's Things  by  Kerry Anne King My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! Some books end in a way that you wish it would go on; OTHER PEOPLE’S THINGS by Kerry Anne King is one of those books. The writing is beautiful, the plot is awesome, and the ending is perfect. Ms. King weaved a story that is full of emotions and magical moments. The characters are extraordinary, and I will miss getting to know them better. I wish there was a second book to see their life is taking them all and have in reserve for them. Although, I am sad that I finished this beautiful book, I am happy that I discovered a new author (to me) and I am looking forward to reading more books by her in the future. I recommend that you pick up a copy of OTHER PEOPLE’S THINGS soon and enjoy an awesome read! #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaho...

Review: The Wedding Planner's Christmas Wish by Cara Colter

The Wedding Planner's Christmas Wish  by  Cara Colter My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I never used to be a season-themed book reader until last year. I discovered that reading Christmas-themed books in December would make me more festive. Review: Gender Swapped Fairy Tales by Karrie Fransman

Gender Swapped Fairy Tales  by  Karrie Fransman My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! Are you looking for the perfect book to give to a child for this coming Christmas? Your search has ended! I recommend GENDER SWAPPED FAIRY TALES by Karrie Fransman and Jonathan Plackett. It is such a wonderful way to reread classic fairy tales in a new perspective. The tales are the same, only the characters are gender swapped. I was enchanted to rediscover my favourite fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast (retitled “Handsome and the Beast”) and falling in love with it all over again. The illustrations are magnificent. This hardcover beauty can also be displayed on your coffee table and delight your guests. It is coming today to your favourite bookstore. Review: Yume by Sifton Tracey Anipare

Yume  by  Sifton Tracey Anipare My rating:  2 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I just finished YUME by Sifton Tracey Anipare and I am conflicted about writing this review. What I liked: 1. Interesting and well-defined characters 2. The gorgeous cover 3. Getting to know more about yokai (supernatural entities and spirits in Japanese folklore) 4. The Canadian link through Cybelle, a black Canadian English teacher What I did not like: 1. The pace – It was lagging a lot at the beginning 2. The size of the book – it could have been shorter 3. The infusion of Japanese words and sentences without translation. 4. The writing was unengaging. If I had known more about Japanese folklore or if I was an anime fan, I think I would have enjoyed this one more. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #insta...

Review: Last Girl Ghosted by Lisa Unger

Last Girl Ghosted  by  Lisa Unger My rating:  3 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! LAST GIRL GHOSTED by Lisa Unger is a respectable thriller infused with good suspense. I enjoyed how the author seeded details throughout the book to buildup the anticipation and deliver a sound ending. I had a hard time believing the main character, Robin (a.k.a. Wren) I would have expected someone more broken and weaker due to the childhood trauma she went through. Beside that, I enjoyed the plot and the delivery. It is a good thriller overall. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #lastgirlghosted #lisaunger #harpercollins #parkrowbooks #booksofhcc #bookreview View all my reviews

Review: The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel

The Glass Hotel  by  Emily St. John Mandel My rating:  2 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! WARNING: The following will most likely be an unpopular review. THE GLASS HOTEL by Emily St. John Mandel was a hard read for me. The constant jumping back and forth in time was hard to follow and keeping track of all the characters was a challenge. The writing is beautiful, and the book has touching moments. But in the end, I just could not love this book. There were too many struggling characters, and the plot did not deliver enough substance to enjoy the novel. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #theglasshotel #emilystjohnmandel #harpercollins #harpercollinsca #bookreview View all my reviews

Review: The Keeper of Happy Endings by Barbara Davis

The Keeper of Happy Endings  by  Barbara Davis My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! THE KEEPER OF HAPPY ENDINGS by Barbara Davis was such a wonderful and enjoyable read. This book is written in two timelines. It follows the life of Soline Roussel, an acclaimed French wedding dress designer, from the early 40s’ to the 80s’. In 1985, Aurora Grant, an American gallery owner, rents space in a building owned by Soline. Destiny brings them together and their lives are changed forever. This is a beautiful story of love and loss and how fate can undo the wrong of the past to make it right. The story is highly emotional and heartbreaking at times, but it is also heartwarming and uplifting. I recommend this mystery romance novel. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #...

Review: Swimming Back to Trout River by Linda Rui Feng

Swimming Back to Trout River  by  Linda Rui Feng My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! SWIMMING BACK TO TROUT RIVER by Linda Rui Feng was such an enjoyable read. I love how the author started the story in Communist China and moved it to the United States. The impact of this transition on the characters felt real and organic. This story is told from many points of view, and is about family, finding love, losing love, grief, and making the decision to move on. Beautiful book. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #swimmingbacktotroutriver #lindaruifeng #simonschusterca #bookreview View all my reviews

Review: The Keepers of Metsan Valo by Wendy Webb

The Keepers of Metsan Valo  by  Wendy Webb My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! THE KEEPERS OF METSAN VALO by Wendy Webb is a story of family, tradition, sacrifice, and finding oneself. I love stories about mystical beings and their link to certain people. This book was full of mysteries and commotion and the author succeeded to bring everything together in the end. I love the interesting interactions between all the family members; in particular the one between Anni, her twin brother and her mom. The characters of Yale and Charles were contradictory, and I wish the author would have written them either good or bad, not both at the same time. The scenery descriptions were enchanting and Metsan Valo sounds like an enchanted place to live and grow up in. This book will please any fiction, fantasy, or mystery lovers. Great read! #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove ...

Review: Stealing Home by J. Torres

Stealing Home  by  J. Torres My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! STEALING HOME by author J. Torres and illustrator David Namisato is a beautiful and emotional graphic novel. I requested a copy for review because I was interested to know more about this historical event that took place in British Columbia, Canada. Although I was born in Canada, my education was very Québec centric, and I hate to admit that I am still learning about major events that happened in other parts of my country. This graphic novel is about the mistreatment of Japanese-Canadians after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. This is not a proud Canadian moment. We learn from our mistakes, let’s hope that this will never happen again. The story is well delivered, and the illustrations are out of this world. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaho...

Review: The Spires by Kate Moretti

The Spires  by  Kate Moretti My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! THE SPIRES by Kate Moretti is a thriller with all the right elements. The characters are interesting, the plot intriguing, and the twist surprising. The story is written in two timelines. As the story progress, the author reveals more and more about the characters, their narratives, their friendship, and their complex relationship. The devious twist at the end was just perfect.
