Review: Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin

Serpent & Dove  by  Shelby Mahurin My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! Holy Moly!!! What a fantastic book! SERPENT & DOVE by Shelby Mahurin has been on my TBR shelf for a while. I am happy I finally picked it up and read it. A story that includes, witches, religious zealous, and witch hunters can only be a great one. Add a few French sentences and you have a perfect combination in my opinion. Louise has been in hiding for a while. She knows that if the white witch discovers where she is, her life will be ended. Reid, a chasseur, has made a vow to hunt and kill witches. When unusual circumstances force them to get married, it is the beginning of a cat and mouse match. Louise must protect her secret and Reid must do what he does best: hunt witches. After the white witch finds her, Louise will face her biggest challenges and Reid will have to confront his heart. Will he chase Louise or save her? #readwithrovergroup #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagra

Review: The Wife Who Knew Too Much by Michele Campbell

The Wife Who Knew Too Much  by  Michele Campbell My rating:  3 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! THE WIFE WHO KNEW TO MUCH by Michele Campbell was a strange read. The beginning was remarkably interesting and promised a great read, but the middle was slow and became a bit repetitive. I am glad I persevere to the end because what started like a lamb, finished like a lion. What an ending!!! Not my favourite by this awesome author but still a great read if you are patient. 🙋🏼‍♀️ Thank you, St. Martin’s Press for sending me an ARC of this exciting novel. THE WIFE WHO KNEW TOO MUCH by Michele Campbell is now available at your favourite bookstore. #readwithrovergroup #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #boo

Review: The Last Train to Key West by Chanel Cleeton

The Last Train to Key West  by  Chanel Cleeton My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! The Last Train to Key West by Chanel Cleeton is a fantastic historical novel. This is the third novel by this wonderful author I have the pleasure to read. Ms. Cleeton does not disappoint. Her thorough historical research is evident in her books. In this one, she covers the 1935 hurricane that devastated the Florida Keys. It was the worst hurricane in US history. People were warned only two days before it hit lands, not enough time to prepare. Over 500 people lost their lives, most of them were veterans from the Great War who were living in the most rudimental camps. I invite you to Google the 1935 Hurricane and find out more about what happened. In this historical book, Ms. Cleeton delivers a moving and edge-of-your-seat novel about three women whose lives will intertwine during this major event. I don’t want to give too much away because it is a book that everyone should read. It is well-wr

Review: Tavi Tails - The Diary of a Dog: Life Through the Eyes of a Master Human Trainer by Tavi Richman

Tavi Tails - The Diary of a Dog: Life Through the Eyes of a Master Human Trainer  by  Tavi Richman My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! Tavi Tails: The Diary of a Dog by Tavi and Lisa Richman was a delight to read. This is the story of Tavi, told in his words. It is fun and so interesting to see how Tavi discovers everything from his own perspective. I love the words he used to name some of the objects around him: “the bad door” which is used by his parents to go to work, the “Goforaride” which is used for the car, the “big water bowl” which is used for any large bodies of water. It is a fun read, no sad ending guaranteed. If you love dogs, you will love this book. Thank you, Tavi and Lisa Richman, for sending me a copy of your wonderful book. Tavi Tails is available at your favourite bookstore. #readwithrovergroup #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #book #

Review: Hairpin Curves by Elia Winters

Hairpin Curves  by  Elia Winters My rating:  4 of 5 stars Hello Book Friends! HAIRPIN CURVES by Elia Winters was a delightful LGBTQ+ book about Megan Harris and her ex-friend Scarlett Andrews. Scarlett used to have the biggest crush on Megan in high school. Scarlett knew she was bisexual and came out in her teens. Megan discovers that she is attracted to women but only once in college. Just as they were on the verge to go to college and be roommates, Scarlett changes her mind and decides to attend another school, leaving Megan to fend for herself. Needless to say, they stopped being friends on that day. Several years later, they agree to embark on a long road-trip to attend their childhood friend’s wedding in Québec city. It is always nice to see my hometown mentioned in a book! Who does not love a story that mentions their hometown?!?! Megan and Scarlett will be facing many challenges on this road-trip. Will this bring them further apart or will they rediscover their friendship? Will

Blog Tour & Review: Awakening of Spies by Brian Landers

📚 Hello Book Friends! I am so excited to be part of the blog tour for this exciting spy novel: Awakening of Spies by Brian Landers. I have not read a spy novel in many years and I was happy to rediscover the thrill, the intelligent plot, and action that come with this genre. Thomas Dylan is a spy who is looking forward to retiring. He is reminiscing on his first mission when he went from being an analyst for the DIS to a full field agent overnight. We are not sure the reason why he was selected for this mission, and the author leads us to believe that there is something very fishy about his appointment. The plot evolves as we turn the pages. There are gunshots, chases, double-crossing, and, of course, a woman. I particularly enjoyed the Canadian references in the book, and I wish there would have been more. There are a lot of characters in the book and I had to make a list to remember who is who. It is slow at the beginning but picks up speed as you read. Overall, it is a good spy no

Review: Mary Poppins Opens the Door by P.L. Travers

Mary Poppins Opens the Door  by  P.L. Travers My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! Just finished reading the third book in the whimsical Mary Poppins series entitled Mary Poppins Opens the Door by P.L. Travers. As in all the books, Mary Poppins returns to number 17 Cherry Tree Lane, London in a spectacular way and again the Banks children: Jane, Michael, fraternal twins John and Barbara, and Annabel will have fantastic adventures. This book was fun and enchanting. I was sad at the end as Mary Poppins leaves the children again. The feeling of abandonment felt by the children was much stronger this time around. But do not despair, she will be back since there are more books in this series to read. #readwithrovergroup #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #book #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadi

Review: LIFEL1K3 by Jay Kristoff

LIFEL1K3  by  Jay Kristoff My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! This book has been the rage for a while. My wonderful friend Ali (@coffeeandbookswithali) sent me a copy in a Secret Santa exchange a while back and it sat on my TBR shelf since. I know, I know… shame on me. I can tell you that I regret not reading this book before. What a ride!!! I love the plot, the characters, and the writing. It is an action pack book with twists and turns that do not disappoint. It is awesome!!!! The ending!!! OMG… the ending was totally surprising. I need to get the next book soon. Review: Florence Adler Swims Forever by Rachel Beanland

Florence Adler Swims Forever  by  Rachel Beanland My rating:  2 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! FLORENCE ADLER SWIMS FOREVER by Rachel Beanland was a difficult read for me. Right from the start, the author drops a bombshell and I was not able to recover after that. I kept waiting for the story to deliver a big reveal and it did not come. The writing is good and there was a lot of potential for this story, but the side stories diluted the main one and it felt unfinished in the end. This book touches so many elements such as death, divorce, sacrifice, homosexuality, and deceit. None of these elements were given any depth. It felt like everything was second fiddle to… to what? I am not sure and I am still trying to figure it out. This book was not for me, but that doesn’t mean that it will not be for you. It is so hard to deliver a not so good review when the book was gifted to you by one of your favourite publishers. I feel conflicted, but I promised an honest review… so that is it! 😭

Review: My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell

My Dark Vanessa  by  Kate Elizabeth Russell My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I am sitting at my computer trying to figure out what to say about My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell. This book has been on my TBR shelf for a while and I think the reason I was not picking it up was the subject. It scared me. I cannot say I enjoyed the book because it frustrated me immensely. From the beginning to the end, I wanted to shake Vanessa and make her see where she was wrong. I think this book shook me more than I expected. This was upsetting! There is a trace of hope at the end of the book, but not enough to make me forget what I did not like about this story. My emotions towards the story might have been shaken, but I still think it is beautifully written and without a doubt, it is a writing tour de force. Because I am a mother and feared every day that my children could become victims of predators, this book raised all these fears to the surface… even if my children are a
