The Stars From Me to You by Nicole Bea
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
📚 Hello Book Friends! I was contacted recently by a Canadian book publisher asking if I would be interested to read one of their books. Of course, I said “yes”. Discovering new Canadian authors is always a pleasure. The Stars From Me to You by Nicole Bea is a middle-grade book that deals with many elements such as depression, sexual identity, losing a loved one, and finding a reason to live. Bellamie’s twin brother is in a coma after an accident. Rion is stuck in Limbo which is a place that is empty and yet filled with stars. Bellamie can visit Rion when she is dreaming. With the help of her dog Macaroni, they will learn the truth about Rion’s accident and what caused it. Will Rion move on to the next step of the afterlife or will he find a reason to live?

This book is a quick read, but it is also a deep insight into the psychological effects of losing someone. I was beautifully written but could have benefited from a bit more structure. The characters are interesting, but the story only touches the surface of who they are. It felt like I was starting the book in the middle. I still recommend it to young people who suffer from depression. There is a great list of resources at the end of the book.
