Review: The Companions

The Companions by Katie M. Flynn My rating: 3 of 5 stars 📚 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀! I finished reading 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 by Katie M. Flynn. This science-fiction book has great elements: AI intelligence, pandemic outbreak, prejudice, violence, revenge, and the desire to survive. I was hoping for a novel like Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick (a.k.a. Blade Runner) or I, Robot by Isaac Asimov. It came close but did not hit the bullseye. It was a solid story, but the delivery was confusing. The ending brought everything together and save the story. #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #book #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #bookphotography #thecompanions #katiemflynn #bookreview View all my reviews

Review: The Silent Patient

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides My rating: 5 of 5 stars 📚 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀! One good thing about social distancing and isolation is that it has given me more time to read books. I am happy to finally get to those best-sellers that have been waiting to be read for quite a while. One of these best-sellers is 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 by Alex Michaelides. Review: Death of an American Beauty

Death of an American Beauty by Mariah Fredericks My rating: 3 of 5 stars 📚 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀! I finished reading 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘆 by Mariah Fredericks and here are my thoughts: This is the third book in the series. I have not read the first two and this put me at a disadvantage. The story was fast-paced and well written. I enjoyed the historical background on Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation and the suffrage and women’s rights. I struggle a bit with the plot and guess the ending too soon. That was a bit of a spoiler for the rest of my reading. If you like old fashion detective stories with a woman protagonist, this series is for you. 🙋🏼‍♀️ Thank you, 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗮𝘂𝗿 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 for sending me an ARC of this exciting novel. 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘆 by Mariah Fredericks is now available at your favourite bookstore. #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookst...

Review: Truths I Never Told You

Truths I Never Told You by Kelly Rimmer My rating: 4 of 5 stars 📚 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀! I finished 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝗜 𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗬𝗼𝘂 by Kelly Rimmer over the weekend. This is a troubling and very emotional book about a mother suffering with postpartum depression after the birth of her children and find herself pregnant again for the fourth time and must face a very difficult decision. Years later, her youngest daughter who is also suffering with postpartum depression discovers her mother’s notes and learns the truth about her. Kelly Rimmer’s writing is beautiful and moving. The story is thought-provoking and challenges the reader to face uncomfortable family situation. The ending is perfect and bring a positive note to a very difficult subject. This is a beautiful book. 🕵🏼‍♀️ 𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄... Review: Followers

Followers by Megan Angelo My rating: 4 of 5 stars 📚 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀! I finished reading 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀 by Megan Angelo. I was not sure what to expect from this novel. I had read some reviews on it but it was still unclear if I would like it or not. It turned out that I really liked it. It was light and it was deep. The characters had many flaws and they were all so self-centered; but strangely close to reality. I did not think I would be that invested to know where the story was going because there was so much superficial drama and yet I continue reading to the end because it was interesting to see how the author was weaving all this drama into a strong ending. It was a good read. 🙋🏼‍♀️ Thank you, 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗮 for sending me a final copy of this interesting book. Review: The New Husband

The New Husband by D.J. Palmer My rating: 4 of 5 stars 📚 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀! I hope you are all well and staying at home! I just finished 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗛𝘂𝘀𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗱 by D.J. Palmer and here's my review: It is a fast, edge of your seat, thriller about a woman who loses her husband and falls for another man… a better one. Nina is trying to move on after her husband is declared missing. She meets Simon who is everything she wants in a man. After a short courtship, Nina and her two children move in with Simon. Is it too soon? Is this the right decision? Nina has her doubts, but she wants to believe that she and her children can be happy with Simon. Why is it that she is doubting her decision and that warning signs start showing up? The plot is well designed and delivered. The more the story evolves, the creepier it gets. I got to a point, I had to know the end. It is a sinister thriller that will leave your unsettled. This is the first time I read a novel by D.J. ...

Review: Hid from Our Eyes

Hid from Our Eyes by Julia Spencer-Fleming My rating: 3 of 5 stars 📚 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀! I finished reading the ninth book in Julia Spencer-Fleming’s Clare Fergusson/Russ Van Alstyne mystery series. The book is entitled 𝗛𝗶𝗱 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗘𝘆𝗲𝘀. In the first book, Clare and Russ had a lot of chemistry and I was looking forward to seeing where their relationship would be in this book. I haven’t read books 2 to 8, so I imagined that the chemistry between both would have grown. I did not imagine that they would be passed the chemistry stage to a full-blown periodic table. This being said, I will have to read the other books to get caught up on the details of some of the characters in this book. I would not recommend reading this one as a stand-alone, you need some background to understand the nuisances of the various secondary stories. Sometimes, these secondary stories steer the focus from the main story. But overall, Julia Spencer-Fleming succeeds to...

BLOG TOUR AND REVIEW OF The Philosopher's Daughters

The Philosopher's Daughters  by  Alison Booth My rating: 5 of 5 stars 📚 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀! Today is my spot on the blog tour for 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 by Alison Booth. It also happens that today this wonderful book is hitting the shelves at your favourite bookstore. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 is a tale of two very different sisters whose 1890s voyage from London into remote outback Australia becomes a journey of self-discovery, set against the landscape of wild beauty and savage dispossession. I could not put down this stunning book. First, the writing is superb. Alison Booth transports you in the Australian Outback with her beautiful descriptions and accounts. Second, the story is magnificent and provocative. I love the thought-provoking references to the suffrage movement, the aboriginal rights (or lack of), and the way of life of Australian pioneers in the 1890s. I hope you will ...
