Review: The It Girl by Ruth Ware

The It Girl  by  Ruth Ware My rating:  4 of 5 stars THE IT GIRL by Ruth Ware has been on my TBR shelf for a while. It took me a while to pick it up because I read so many mixed reviews on this book; I was afraid I would not like it. Surprisingly, I liked it more than I expected. Ware's writing is taut and atmospheric, creating a palpable sense of tension and unease that builds throughout the novel. The characters are well-drawn and complex, with their own motivations and secrets. The plot is well crafted, with twists and turns. Sadly, I guessed the killer early in the book and it removed the element of surprise that I like in thriller. It was nonetheless a satisfying read. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #booklover #bookaholic #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #the...

Review: The Dressmakers of Prospect Heights by Kitty Zeldis

The Dressmakers of Prospect Heights  by  Kitty Zeldis My rating:  4 of 5 stars THE DRESSMAKERS OF PROSPECT HEIGHTS by Kitty Zeldis has been on my TBR shelf for a little while. I was afraid to pick it up because I just knew that story would break my heart. It did, indeed, break my heart but it also filled it with appreciation for a mother’s love. The setting of this beautiful book is vividly described, and the sense of time and place is palpable throughout. The story is ultimately a celebration of motherhood, sacrifice, and forgiveness. It is also a story of creativity, and resilience. This well-written historical novel is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #booklover #bookaholic #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #thedressmakersofpr...

Review: The Angel Maker by Alex North

The Angel Maker  by  Alex North My rating:  4 of 5 stars THE ANGEL MAKER by Alex North is a gripping psychological thriller that will keep you on edge from start to finish. As the investigation unfolds, the reader is taken on a dark and twisted journey that explores the depths of the human psyche and how far a sister is willing to go to save her brother. North masterfully weaves together multiple storylines and characters, creating a rich and complex narrative. The characters are well-developed, with their flaws and vulnerabilities adding to the sense of realism. The writing is taut and evocative, creating an atmosphere of unease that persists throughout the novel. Mr. North has once again proven himself to be a master of the psychological thriller genre and I will probably be scared of going to bed for a few days. 😧 #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #bo...

Review: Murder at Haven's Rock: A Novel by Kelley Armstrong

Murder at Haven's Rock: A Novel  by  Kelley Armstrong My rating:  5 of 5 stars MURDER AT HAVEN’S ROCK by Canadian author, Kelley Armstrong, is the first book in the new spin-off of the Rockton Series. I was so happy when Ms. Armstrong announced this new series, and I was over the moon for getting an advanced copy of the first book. Reading this book felt like coming home. I love the awesome cast and although I am sad that some characters from the first series will not be joining the second, this first book set the tone for this new series and I like it. I also love that this is taking place in the Yukon wilderness. Detective Casey Duncan, her husband, Sheriff Eric Dalton, and Storm, their Newfoundlander dog, are a perfect trio to solve murder cases and deal with the most heartless villains. This is a fantastic start, and I can’t wait to read the next book. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #booki...

Review: Squire by Sara Alfageeh

Squire  by  Sara Alfageeh My rating:  4 of 5 stars SQUIRE by Sara Alfageeh and Nadia Shammas was a nominee for Best Graphic Novels & Comics in the 2022 Goodreads Choice Award. I love the story of courage in the midst of adversity, making the wrong right and being a hero. Not all heroes are big and strong, some of them are the last person you expected. Aiza’s story is that. A young girl who comes from a disfavoured nation and who dreams to be all she can be even if the odds are against her. I enjoyed the story and the beautiful illustrations. I however noticed some discrepancies in the illustrations and they were noticeable enough to bother me. Otherwise, it was an adventure worth reading. The ending was left open, and I would love to see what is next for Aiza and her companions. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #reade...

Review: The Drift by C.J. Tudor

The Drift  by  C.J. Tudor My rating:  4 of 5 stars THE DRIFT by C.J. Tudor was quite a ride. Ms. Tudor wrote an intricate and well-crafted plot; with a twist I did not see coming. Written in three voices, this story is gut-wrenching and thought-provoking. Written during the pandemic, I can see how this book was inspired by what we went through. Time this ten times and you get The Drift. I was left with a few answered questions, and this is why this book is not getting a perfect score. It is still an exciting dystopian book. Pick up a copy today and witness a thrilling story of how far you would go to avenge a loved one. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #booklover #bookaholic #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #cjtudor #penguinrandomca #tandemreadalong #thrillerbooks ...

Review: Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney

Rock Paper Scissors  by  Alice Feeney My rating:  4 of 5 stars This book is eerie and creepy but interesting at the same time. The remote Scottish location, the woman in a red kimono, the white rabbit, and a scary crypt are only a few spooky elements that makes this story intriguing. The twist at the end totally surprised me. I discovered so many new words in this book, that was fantastic! I learned one thing with Ms. Feeney’s books… you must pay attention and details are important. I also loved the illustrations at the beginning of each chapters. This is a decent thriller. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #rockpaperscissors #alicefeeney #flatironbooks #thriller #buddyread #bookreview View all my re...

One Month of You  by  Suzanne Ewart My rating:  4 of 5 stars ONE MONTH OF YOU by Suzanne Ewart is a touching and emotional tale of a family facing the devastating effects of Huntington disease. The story follows a mother who is struggling with the progressive neurodegenerative illness, her daughter who has the gene and is fearful of falling in love, and a barman who wants to love her despite her fears.
