Review: Jane by Aline Brosh McKenna

Jane  by  Aline Brosh McKenna My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! Last day of February already. I am finishing the month with JANE by Aline Brosh McKenna and illustrated by Ramón Pérez. This is a retelling of Charlotte Brontë’s classic novel Jane Eyre set in present day. I enjoyed the story and the characters. I think the retelling was fresh and well done. I was as annoyed at Mrs. Rochester in this book as in the original. The illustrations are stunning and expressive. Great book. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #janegraphicnovel #alinebroshmckenna #ramonperez #archaia #bookreview View all my reviews

Review: Edgewood by Kristen Ciccarelli

Edgewood  by  Kristen Ciccarelli My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! EDGEWOOD by Kristen Ciccarelli has it all: beautiful and conflicted characters, enchanted woods, dark evil, and love. I was pulled right into the story from the start. The writing is skilled and stunning. This is a stand-alone story with an emotional ending. This lyrical novel could have a sequel and that would make me happy. I would like to see more of these wonderful characters in the future. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #edgewood #kristenciccarelli #raincoastbooks #wednesdaybooks #bookreview View all my reviews

Review: Meet Cute by Helena Hunting

Meet Cute  by  Helena Hunting My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! MEET CUTE by Helena Hunting is a sweet, funny, and sexy romcom. I loved how the characters of Kailyn and Daxton were developed and how their relationship evolved. The story is not all fun and heat, but also has substance and emotional moments. The relationship between Emme (Dax’s younger sister) and Kailyn is heartwarming and à propos. The ending is uplifting and brings closure to this beautiful story. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #meetcute #helenahunting #readforeverpub #bookreview View all my reviews

Review: Listening Still by Anne Griffin

Listening Still  by  Anne Griffin My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! LISTENING STILL by Anne Griffin is a beautiful story of family, love, loss, forgiveness, and finding oneself. The writing is wonderful and touching. I love the emotionally complex characters and the ending was perfect. I was worried that the supernatural aspect of the novel was going to be disturbing, but it was not at all. It felt natural. This is my first book by this author, and it won’t be the last. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #listeningstill #annegriffin #stmartinspress #bookreview View all my reviews

ALEXANDRA AND THE AWFUL, AWKWARD, NO FUN, TRULY BAD DATES by Rebekah Manley and illustrated by Catarina Oliveira is a short and sweet book about thirty years old Alexandra challenging herself to find her soulmate with #30datesin30days. She meets all kinds of men but in the end, she finds happiness. The illustrations are gorgeous and the story is relatable as I was once in Alexandra’s shoes. The picture book parody for adults is fun and a perfect gift for any woman who enters the dating world again. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophi...

Review: Love Story [50th Anniversary Edition] by Erich Segal

Love Story [50th Anniversary Edition]  by  Erich Segal My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I have been wanting to read LOVE STORY by Erich Segal for years. I remember the first time I saw the movie based on this book and how it broke my heart. This book was first published on February 14th, 1970, and recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. Long before social media existed, this 131-page book went viral. This beautiful love story between a rich Harvard hockey star and a working-class Radcliffe music scholar is as needed today as it was in 1970. We all need to believe in love. “Love means never having to say you’re sorry.” –Erich Segal, Love Story #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #lo...

Review: The Deepest of Secrets by Kelley Armstrong

The Deepest of Secrets  by  Kelley Armstrong My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! THE DEEPEST OF SECRETS by one of my fav authors, Kelley Armstrong was an exciting read. This is the seventh book in the Rockton Series and rumours were that it would be the last. I visited Ms. Armstrong’s IG account and saw a post where she said: “Is it the last...? Maybe. Kinda. It's complicated.” This gives me hope that this is not the last time I will see Detective Casey Duncan and Sheriff Eric Dalton, and their Newfoundlander, Storm. This series is so good!!! If you have not read it yet, I recommend that you start at book one to get all the story details. This mystery/detective series set in Yukon is exhilarating, entertaining, and steamy (although not so much in book 7 🤔). I recommend it! #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookahol...

Review: Joint Custody by Lauren Baratz-Logsted

Joint Custody  by  Lauren Baratz-Logsted My rating:  3 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! From the moment I saw the adorable cover of JOINT CUSTODY by Lauren Baratz-Logsted and Jackie Logsted, I knew I had to read this book. I love that the book is written in the furbaby’s POV. Gatz is funny, determined, and so bright. The ending was not what I expected but it is well delivered. I am not sure I would call this book a romance novel… it was way too much effort for one dog to bring love between two people. Nevertheless, this was a fast and decent read. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #jointcustody #laurenbaratzlogsted #jackielogsted #berkleypublishing #penguincanada #bookreview View all ...

Review: The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

The Love Hypothesis  by  Ali Hazelwood My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I have seen a lot of love for THE LOVE HYPOTHESIS by Ali Hazelwood on Instagram. I now know why. This is such a fantabulous read with all the good feels. Right from the start, I loved Olive and Adam’s interactions. I could not put the book down. At about three-quarters of the book, the story went full hot and, well… it was just perfect!! If you are looking for a fun and steamy romcom, this is the one. And did I say that I loved the fact that Olive is Canadian? No! Well, now you know! LOL! I just hope they will make a movie soon! #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #thelovehypothesis #alihazelwood #jacki...

Review: The Road Trip by Beth O'Leary

The Road Trip  by  Beth O'Leary My rating:  3 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! THE ROAD TRIP by Beth O’Leary was a fun romcom book. It is advertised as an “enemies to lovers” trope, but I am not sure I would call Addie and Dylan, enemies. They were more immature lovers. I love the now and then timelines which bring to light all the issues in their relationship. The ending made sense as they set themselves for a successful relationship going forward. I hope there will be a sequel telling what could happen between Addie’s sister, Deb, and Kevin, the truck driver… there is potential there. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #theroadtrip #betholeary #berkleypublishing #penguincanada #bookre...

Review: A Most Clever Girl by Stephanie Marie Thornton

A Most Clever Girl  by  Stephanie Marie Thornton My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! A MOST CLEVER GIRL by Stephanie Marie Thornton was an extraordinary account of a Cold War double agent spying for the Russians and the United States. The story is fast-paced and has unexpected twists. It takes place in the 30s’, WWII, and during and just after the Cold War. I do not know much about the Cold War and what it meant. This book inspired me to research more about that time period and Elizabeth Bentley’s involvement in gathering information for the USSR. I enjoyed the account of her involvement with her handler, Jacob Golos, it was very emotional. I also enjoyed the author’s notes explaining why she chose to write this book. I recommend this thought-provoking book. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #rea...

Review: Good as Dead by Susan Walter

Good as Dead  by  Susan Walter My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I truly enjoyed GOOD AS DEAD by Susan Walter. The two timelines, six voices work for this quick read. The plot is well delivered, the characters are well developed, and the twist was a surprise. Review: A Diary of the Plague Year: An Illustrated Chronicle of 2020 by Elise Engler

A Diary of the Plague Year: An Illustrated Chronicle of 2020  by  Elise Engler My rating:  3 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! A DIARY OF THE PLAGUE YEAR by Elise Engler was definitely an interesting read, filled with lots of information. I particularly enjoyed the information about the coronavirus and its spread. The book clearly shows how the world was not prepared for this pandemic and that leaders were too slow to react and protect their people. It also showed that this did not apply only to the leaders but to the people as too many of them did not take the warnings seriously and lost their lives subsequently. I was also educated on what happened to George Floyd and the movement of solidarity that followed. On the other hand, as a Canadian, I was not able to relate to the numerous accounts about American politics. This diary lasts a year and is original and artistic. The illustrations are well done and à-propos. If you are interested to read a unique overview of what ...

Review: Meet Me in Paradise

Meet Me in Paradise  by  Libby Hubscher My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! MEET ME IN PARADISE by Libby Hubscher was a roller-coaster of emotions. I love this book; it touched my heart in so many ways. I love the two sisters’ bond and support. I do not have a sister, but if I did, I wish my relationship with her would be like the one Marin and Sadie have. All the characters were interesting and unique. I love how the author developed Marin and Lucas’ relationship and delivered a heartwarming ending. This is a wonderful love story between two sisters and how far they are willing to go to make each other happy. It is also a charming story of finding love in the most beautiful way. This story of love, loss, adventure, self-discovery and self-acceptance beautifully written and you will not be able to put down until the end. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #boo...

Review: Bright Ruined Things by Samantha Cohoe

Bright Ruined Things  by  Samantha Cohoe My rating:  3 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I have mixed feelings about BRIGHT RUINED THINGS by Samantha Cohoe. The storyline was interesting, but the characters felt undeveloped. The book did not offer much information on them. The story felt superficial and shaky. I think this book could have been written as a duology or trilogy and offered more details on the origins of the island and the spirits who live on it. It would also allow for better character development. Please don’t let this stop you from picking up a copy. If you like YA fantasy novels, this one has its merits and can be enjoyed by anyone and at any age. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #...

Review: Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie

Death on the Nile  by  Agatha Christie My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I read DEATH ON THE NILE by Agatha Christie in French when I was a teenager and loved it then. I decided to read it in English this time around and did not know what to expect. Although I remembered some parts, I had forgotten others. The ending was as surprising as it was the first time around. If you have not read Agatha Christie yet, this is a good book to start with. Hercule Poirot is such a fascinating character and his ways to find who has done it are fun and intelligent. I can’t wait to see the movie coming out on February 11th. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #deathonthenile #agathachristie ...

Review: Annie Stanley, All At Sea by Sue Teddern

Annie Stanley, All At Sea  by  Sue Teddern My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I might have not been in the right set of minds to read ANNE STANLEY, ALL AT SEA by Sue Teddern but I have no regrets. I lost my dad over a year ago and I still miss him terribly. Reading this beautiful story about loss, grief, love, and learning to say “goodbye”, brought so many emotions, and made me shed a few tears while reading. I loved the road trip aspect of the book and I wish I had done something like that for my dad’s ashes. The characters are awesome and believable. I particularly loved Annie and all her quirks. Overall, this is a beautiful and emotional read. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibli...

Review: Smooth as Silk by Alicia Hunter Pace

Smooth as Silk  by  Alicia Hunter Pace My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! This is such a lovely book filled with conflicts, tension, attraction, and love. I absolutely love the characters of Hyacinth and Robbie. The chemistry between them is palatable and you cannot stop yourself from cheering for them. The book gets bonus points for Robbie, the sexy gallant Scottish hockey player… I have this thing for Scottish men. This is the second book in the Good Southern Women Series. The book can be read as a stand-alone, but I recommend you also read Sweet As Pie. It is also a fantastic sexy romance. I am looking forward to reading the third book. #bookstadog #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #Sponsored #HarlequinPublicityTeam #Harlequi...

Review: The Girl Who Owned a City: The Graphic Novel by O.T. Nelson

The Girl Who Owned a City: The Graphic Novel  by  O.T. Nelson My rating:  4 of 5 stars This graphic novel is based on a novel by O.T. Nelson, adapted by Dan Jolley, and illustrated by Joëlle Jones. I enjoyed the illustrations and the plot. Think what would happen to a world where the older human being is 12 years old. Lisa, the main protagonist, is wiser beyond her years and she means well in trying to save those who ally themselves with her. Her leadership skills are at time immature, but we see her grow and mature as the story evolves. The book is suitable for tweens, teens, and is a bit young for adults but has its merits. A post-apocalyptic graphic novel showcasing survival of the fittest can put things in perspective, especially during a pandemic. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #readersofinstagram #instaread ...

The Kiss Quotient  by  Helen Hoang My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! The Pooches & Page Book Club is reading THE KISS QUOTIENT by Helen Hoang in February. I am so glad we selected this book. It was fun, entertaining, and sexy. I love the characters and their quirks. Stella is so cute. If I was looking for a book boyfriend, Michael would be him. Review: The Last Grand Duchess by Bryn Turnbull

The Last Grand Duchess  by  Bryn Turnbull My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! Some people are passionate about the Brittish royalty, I am the same about the Russian royalty. What happened to the Romanov family in 1917 and 1918 is nothing short of a tragedy. I am sure many people will disagree with me but after reading many accounts of the Romanov family life and their last days, I have concluded that they were puppets in the hands of too many evil souls. THE LAST GRAND DUCHESS by Canadian author, Bryn Turnbull, is a good account of Grand Duchess Olga, the eldest daughter. I enjoyed the part about her work as a nurse at the Annexe. I had the pleasure to visit the Summer Palace a few years ago and saw where the tsarina established a hospital on the palace grounds. Having seen with my eyes their residence and the beautiful property make any books about this family more real. If you have not read historical novels about the Romanov family, this is a good one to pi...

Review: The Magnolia Palace by Fiona Davis

The Magnolia Palace  by  Fiona Davis My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! Fiona Davis does it again!!! THE MAGNOLIA PALACE is a wondrous read filled with art, drama, mystery, and love. Right from the start I was captivated in this two timelines novel about two female models from two eras. I love how Ms. Davis includes a mix of true historical events and fiction in her books. The Magnolia Palace is now my favourite book by this extraordinary author. I will visit the Frick Collection, mentioned in this book, next time I am in New York city. Review: One of Us Is Next by Karen M. McManus

One of Us Is Next  by  Karen M. McManus My rating:  3 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I just finished ONE OF US IS NEXT by Karen M. McManus and I am still processing what happened. This book is the second book in the One of Us is Lying Series and it is not as good as the first book because the element of surprise was diluted, but it has its own merits. It was interesting to find out where the characters from the first book were at and the ending was unexpected. I can’t wait to read the third book when it comes out in 2023. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #oneofusisnext #karenmmcmanus #delacortepress #penguinbooks #bookreview View all my reviews
