I just finished THE LAST ROSE OF SHANGHAI by Weina Dai Randel and I am an emotional mess. This beautiful story of forbidden love between a young Chinese woman and a German Jew refugee in Shanghai is heartbreaking. This jazz-filled story takes place during the Japanese occupation of Shanghai and tells the horrific events of those times. The story also takes in the Chinese familial customs and expectations on a young woman in the 40s’. I was enthralled by Ernest and Aiyi’s story from the beginning. The ending was exceptional! The characters were fun, interesting, and sexy. I loved the way the author introduced Alex in the story and made this character more and more lovable as the book progressed. It is an emotional read with many happy moments and several sad ones. The book deals with the pain of losing a loved one, divorces, break-ups, and rejection. This is Sarah Grunder Ruiz first book, and it is a great one. I am looking forward to reading this author again soon. THE WRIGHT SISTER by Patty Dann looks at the life of Katharine Wright, sister of the famous Wright brothers who flew the world’s first airplane. The book is written in the form a marriage diary and letters to her brother Orville. It was interesting to find out more about her unrecognised contributions in the invention of the airplane. He attempts to reach out to her reclusive brother Orville are moving and sad. Her marriage life anecdotes were eye-opening for those times but too repetitive in the book. I doubt she spent that much time in a bath but who am I to judge. This does not always pay off as sometimes the stories start blending with each other. To avoid that, I have been making sure not to read more than three books in the same genre in a row. I then switch to another genre just to cleanse the palate. THE LAST FLIGHT by Julie Clark was the sorbet to my reading and it was so good. This mystery thriller delivered twisted punch after twisted punch and ended with a surprising bang. Tales of the Otherworld  by  Kelley Armstrong My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! TALES OF THE OTHERWORLD by Kelley Armstrong is the second book in the Otherworld Stories Series. This series is an extension to the Women of the Otherworld series and offers deeper insights on some of the original characters. These stories are well written and entertaining. One of these stories covers Logan, a werewolf. He was introduced in the book BITTEN and I loved him from the start. Unfortunately, Ms. Armstrong killed this character way too early in the series and broke my heart. I got to know him more in TALES OF THE OTHERWORLD and this justified my thoughts that he should have had a book dedicated to him in the original series. The Last Daughter of York  by  Nicola Cornick My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! THE LAST DAUGHTER OF YORK by Nicola Cornick was a great read. I love how the author linked the two timelines and created fantastic characters to carry the story. I would, however, have preferred that the story takes place in the 1400s’. I believe that the entirety of the book could have been on that timeline and less on the present time. The story of Anne and Francis was fascinating and I would have loved to know more about them after finishing the book. The finale was excellent and brought a good conclusion to the story. This is one of my fav series. It has fantastic characters, sensational plots, magic, and, of course, love. This series about Xanthe, a young woman, who has the talent to hear old objects sing and to travel in time to help the original owner of the object. She is a Spinner. The third book ended with a cliff-hanger where Liam, Xanthe’s love interest, has been kidnapped by another Spinner. She will do anything to get Liam back, but upon returning to the past, she finds out that there is more to the kidnap that meets the eyes. If you are looking for a terrific series that has all the good vibes and will keep you on your toes to the end, this is the one. My brother did the Compostela pilgrimage three times in his lifetime, and I am sure he will do it at least one more time. I admire him for this. When I saw that Graeme Simsion and Anne Buist wrote a book about the Camino de Santiago, I could not resist to buy a copy and start reading. I loved it! This is such a beautiful story of perseverance, courage, and friendship amidst the bombing of London during WWII. A young woman moves to London at the start of the war and finds a job in a bookshop. Little does she know that this will change her life forever. The story offers great physical and emotional descriptions of the bombings of London by the Germans.
