Review: One by One by Ruth Ware

One by One  by  Ruth Ware My rating:  3 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! ONE BY ONE by Ruth Ware was a surprising thriller. The plot offered so many suspects and it was hard to guess who the real murderer was until near the end. I liked the relationship between Erin and Danny. It was realistic. However, most of the other characters were a group of entitled snobs and it was hard to imagine that such a group would exist IRL. The story had a few good thrilling moments. The “how she got away” big ending was anticlimactic, in my opinion. Overall, it is still an entertaining read. 🙋🏼‍♀️ Thank you, SIMON & SCHUSTER CANADA for sending me an ARC of this thrilling book. Review: The Three Mrs. Wrights: A Novel by Linda Keir

The Three Mrs. Wrights: A Novel  by  Linda Keir My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! THE THREE MRS. WRIGHTS by Linda Keir was a great read. This is the story of Trip… no Jon… no Jack… no Jonathan…. Really?!?! Well, all these names are his depending on who you are. So, this is the story of a man with many names who is a highly successful and rich businessman and who loves women. To tell you more would reveal too much about the plot. But let us just say that he is involved with more than just one woman. Lies, deception, and an exceptionally busy calendar fill the life of Dr. Jonathan Mitchell Wright. One man + three women = big troubles. This is a great and very entertaining read. My only disappointment with the book was that the authors do not explain why Mr. Wright is the way he is. What caused him to be unfaithful and wanting more than one woman in his life. Why was he so delusional? The ending was well done but a bit too happy ever after for Mr. Wright in my ...

Review: Loathe at First Sight by Suzanne Park

Loathe at First Sight  by  Suzanne Park My rating:  3 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! LOATHED AT FIRST SIGHT by Suzanne Park was a fun read. I love the main character Melody Joo. She is a strong, quirky, mouthy woman, and yet, she has her insecure moments. The story is about her trying to make it in the video gaming world and being repeatedly thrown under the bus by her boss. She will face many adversities because she is a thriving woman in a man dominated industry, but she does not give up. Add to the mix an office romance, overbearing parents, and the responsibility to be the maid of honour at a friend’s wedding and you will start to understand the stress Melody is facing. This is a quick and enjoyable read. 🙋🏼‍♀️ Thank you, Books Forward for sending me an ecopy of this entertaining book. Review: A Tortured Soul by L.A. Detwiler

A Tortured Soul  by  L.A. Detwiler My rating:  3 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! A TORTURED SOUL by L.A. Detwiler was a dark and twisted book. Written mostly in the voice of Crystal, you discover her deep emotional pain after the still-birth of her son, Gideon, and the mistreatment of his poor little dead body by her abusive husband. This book is not for the faints of hearts. I was tempted many times to stop reading because Crystal’s story was just too overwhelming and upsetting. I literally read this book by looking at the pages between my fingers like when you watch a scary movie. I finished the book because I had to know what really happened. Although the ending was very disturbing, it brought closure to the story. If you are a fan of very dark psychological books, this one is for you. Just don’t read it when you are alone at night… you might not be able to go to sleep. 🙋🏼‍♀️ Thank you, L.A. Detwiler for sending me an ecopy of your book. A TORTURED SOUL by L.A. Det...

Review: Right After the Weather by Carol Anshaw

Right After the Weather  by  Carol Anshaw My rating:  2 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! RIGHT AFTER THE WEATHER by Carol Anshaw is a beautifully written LGBT contemporary literary fiction. This is about a forty-something woman who tries to manage her relationships with her girlfriend, ex-girlfriend, ex-husband, and, on top of that, who saves her friend from being raped by killing her assailant. The story somewhat successfully deals with all the deep emotions that come with these events. This book had so much potential but fell short because there was no closure. #bookstadog #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #bookphotography #rightaftertheweather #carolanshaw #bookreview View all my reviews

Review: Anxious People by Fredrik Backman

Anxious People  by  Fredrik Backman My rating:  5 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! ANXIOUS PEOPLE by Fredrik Backman is one of the most anticipated books this year. I love Fredrik Backman’s humour and character development. This book was slow at first and I was struggling to read it, but just past the halfway point, the story became addictive and I finished the book in one evening. I laughed, I cried, and I cheered for this eclectic group of people. This is a story about a failed bank-robbing that turns into a hostage-taking just because someone is just trying to find a little corner of blue sky in their life. The story is full of surprised and the connections between the characters will astonish you. If you are a fan of Fredrik Backman’s books, you will not be disappointed. Just hang in there, the story comes together so beautifully. Well done, Mr. Backman!! 🙋🏼‍♀️ Thank you, SIMON & SCHUSTER CANADA for sending me an ARC of this fantastic book. ANXIOUS PEOPLE by F...

Review: Little White Lies by Philippa East

Little White Lies by Philippa East My rating: 4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! LITTLE WHITE LIES by Philippa East is a family drama/mystery about a family whose daughter was adducted when she was eight years old. Seven years later, their daughter is reunited with them and her mother must now face the truth of what really happened on that day she disappeared. The book is well-written, and the characters are realistic. I could feel all the emotions and pains that naturally come to parents who lose a child and the difficulties of reconciliation after a long separation. The author knitted a complex plot that came together spectacularly at that end. I love that the book was written in the voices of Abigail’s mom and cousin. It added perspective to the story. This is a great read! 🙋🏼‍♀️ Thank you, HarperCollins Canada for sending me an ARC of this astounding book. The tension between Julia and Rocco was tangible and so hot! I love their relationship back and forth and how they can keep their hands away from each other. The Falcon Always Wings Twice  by  Donna Andrews My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I just finished reading THE FALCON ALWAYS WINGS TWICE by Donna Andrews. This is the twenty-seven book in the Meg Langslow series. I am new to this series and was hoping that it would be a stand-alone story and that I would not have to read the other twenty-six other books to enjoy it! LOL! Well, I can confirm that I was able to enjoy this cozy mystery without reading all the other books. This is an entertaining story with many fun moments. Review: The Shadows by Alex North

The Shadows  by  Alex North My rating:  4 of 5 stars 📚 Hello Book Friends! I just finished listening to THE SHADOWS by Alex North. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed listening to a book. This was an incredibly positive experience. The narrators were well articulated and were able to showcase the emotions of the characters accurately. This book was as dark as I expected. Mr. North has the talent to write dark stories that you cannot put down. Right to the end, I was trying to figure out who was behind the murders and what really happened. This is not for the faint of hearts, but it is definitely an awesome read that will leave you jumpy and wonder what is in the deep woods at night.
