Review: Chosen Ones

Chosen Ones by Veronica Roth My rating: 4 of 5 stars 📚 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀! I finished reading the first book in Veronica Roth’s new series 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗻 𝗢𝗻𝗲𝘀. It took me a while to get into the story. The first part felt like you were supposed to know what happened before. As I continued to read, the story developed and came together. By the second part, I was totally invested in the book and could not put it down. 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗻 𝗢𝗻𝗲𝘀 is about five people who, when they were teenagers, were selected to defeat the Dark One, a destructor from another world. They fought and they won. Ten years later, one of them dies and they realise that the fight is not over. A magical link between their world and the Dark One’s world is fracturing, threatening the destruction of both worlds and they are called to fight again to stop it. Great start to this new series, but as it stands, this book could be read as a stand-alone. I am curious where the story will go from...

Review: The K Team

The K Team by David Rosenfelt My rating: 4 of 5 stars I finished reading 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗞 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 by David Rosenfelt. This is the first book in this new series which is a spinoff of the Andy Carpenter mysteries. The K Team is made of four members: Laurie Collins, a retired police officer and also married to Andy Carpenter; Marcus Clark, a legendary investigator and now the enforcer in the team; Corey Douglas, a retired police officer with a short temper; and Simon Garfunkel, a retired German Shepherd police dog. A local judge is being blackmailed and hires the K Team to find out discretely who is involved. The K Team soon discovers that this is much bigger than they expected. The plot is full of surprises and unexpected twists and turns. The author keeps you guessing right the end. It is an exciting debut for this new series. If you like old-fashion detective novels, you will love this series. It has that no non-sense feeling with all the new investigational tools. It is a fan...

Review: The Sea Glass Cottage

The Sea Glass Cottage by RaeAnne Thayne My rating: 4 of 5 stars I had the pleasure to read this book over the weekend and it totally charmed me. This is the story of three generations of strong-willed women who must come to terms with deep hurts caused by family secrets and find a way to forgive each other. Everyone has regrets but pride gets in the way of finding a resolution. It will take a few major events to start the conversations which will bring healing and forgiveness in this family. The book is beautifully written, and the love relationships come with ups and downs, but all is good in the end. It was a lovely read. 🙋🏼‍♀️ Thank you, Harlequin Books for sending me an ARC of this delightful novel. Review: Actress

Actress by Anne Enright My rating: 2 of 5 stars This is a novel about a daughter’s search to understand her mother’s hidden truths. I wish I would have loved this book because it is about a challenging daughter and mother relationship and I can relate to that. The book description was very promising. I appreciated how superb the writing was, but the story dragged and was sometimes confusing. In the end, I was not sure what I really got out of the story. 🙋🏼‍♀️ Thank you, Penguin Random House Canada for sending me an ARC of this lovely novel. 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 by Anne Enright was recently published and is now available at your favourite bookstore. #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #book #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #bookphotograph...

Review: You Are Not Alone

You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks My rating: 5 of 5 stars Hello book friends! March has been a slow reading month for me so far. I have too many things on my plate and not enough time to read. This being said, I recently finished 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲 by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen and loved it. These two authors do not disappoint. This is the second book I read from them and it was as exciting as the other. You are not alone is an intelligent thriller with many twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I could not put it down, I had to know what happens next. The ending was sensational, surprising, and absolutely perfect. If you have not read a book by this dynamic duo, I recommend you pick one very soon. You will not regret it! 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲 will be a great hit! 🙋🏼‍♀️ Thank you, St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for sending me an eARC of this fantastic thriller. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲 by Greer Hendricks and Sarah ...

Review: Wicked As You Wish

Wicked As You Wish by Rin Chupeco My rating: 2 of 5 stars I read this book while I was on holiday. I loved Rin Chupeco’s series entitled The Bone Witch and I was looking forward to her dark writing style in this new series and did not find it. I tried to find an anchor in the story and was unable to get in it. I love how she described the Filipino way of life of her main character; that made me smile. I have a few friends from the Philippines and recognised their sense of community in the story. Unfortunately, the story and the characters sounded recycled from other books and fairy tales, and they did not bring anything new. I am disappointed in this first book in the series and will most likely not continue reading it. However, don’t let this honest review distract you from reading this author. I recommend her other series The Bone Witch which is one of my favourites. #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #boo...
